Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks softball team posted a nine-run fourth inning in game two to secure a Tuesday double-header sweep against Blackburn College and snap an eight-game losing skid.
The Eagles (5-12) took game one 6-2 and then posted a 12-2 run-rule win in game two.
In game one, Blackburn (0-4) opened the game with a run and then added another run in the top of the second to lead 2-0. But Ozarks responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning when Haley Hardy singled in Cheyanna Miller. Trailing 2-1 in the fourth, Ozarks tied the game when Katie Ventress singled in Hardy and then took the lead for good when Krysten Shavers posted an RBI double. Ventress led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run, her third of the season. Miller later had a sacrifice fly to score Shavers and Hailey Ostrander grounded out to bring in Kayla Gray. In the circle, Ventress and Hannah Oler gave up just four hits. Oler (3-7) received the win, allowing only one hit and no runs.
Ventress went 3-for-3 with a homer and two RBI.
In game two, Ozarks turned a two-run game into a ten-run win after exploding for nine runs in the fourth inning. With Ozarks leading 3-1 after three complete innings, things changed dramatically when the Eagles recorded eight hits in the fourth. Miller collected the inning's first RBI and Ventress, Shavers and Sydney Key followed with additional RBI. At that point, the Eagles led 7-1. With two outs, Rebecca Willems ripped a triple to right field to score one. Ostrander and Brooke Hoffsommer then recorded back-to-back RBI. Hoffsommer capped the scoring when she crossed the plate on an error.
Starter Courtnie Walker (1-1) had an outstanding day in the circle. Walker limited Blackburn to six hits for the win.
Hoffsommer and Ventress each had two hits and two RBI. Kaitlyn David also had two hits.
Ozarks will host Oklahoma Baptist Wednesday in a double-header beginning at 2:00 p.m.
