Central College Under Armour Invitational

Pella, Iowa
Finish: 4th place of 13 teams

The Eagles finished fourth at the competitive Central College Under Armour Invitational Saturday in Iowa. Ozarks had a number of standout individual performances. At 125, Nathaneal Rankin, Corey Muniz and Devon Jackson (two) posted wins. At 133, Siaygnoun Hnamnhouane posted a pair of wins. At 141, Jaylen York had two wins. At 157, Keshawn Franklin had a win. Also at 157, Russell Miller gained two wins. Adolofo Sotolongo advanced to the championship match winning three straight. Sotolongo would eventually fall by decision 1-0.

"I'm proud of the fight, the guys battled and went after opportunities at the tournament. We faced tough competitors. We'll keep working on positioning, setups to our offense and more wrestling through transitions. Individually, obviously Adolfo, Devon and Russell competed well. Adolfo showed great poise, patience while working hard at heavyweight against a solid opponent in the finals. Devon had a familiar opponent and it was the most offense I've seen him get after so that was good. Russell wrestled well in his division, and I am most impressed with his continued progress on the mat, wrestling from the bottom. The guys are getting better every week. We are excited to host Ouachita Baptist University on Wednesday so it is a quick turnaround, but that should benefit us."

"My second place finish is not an achievement to me because I failed to overcome the obstacle in my path. Although this loss brings frustration, I have to look at it as an opportunity. The positives I have to take are that I was the most aggressive and relentless with my attacks I have been all year. I will take this opportunity to refocus, study more film and train even harder so I can put myself in the position of the success I seek. Every match is a learning experience and this just another one for me."
