Clarksville, Ark. – The Eagles forced the No. 25 Ouachita Baptist University Tigers to rally from behind as the home team claimed a 24-16 win on Tuesday night in Arkadelphia.
The Tigers, ranked nationally in the NWCA poll, got all they wanted from the Eagles.
Shelton Chastain (125),
Benjamin Beaty (141),
Airamis Mendoza (165) and Gabe Sheikh (174) all landed wins in the match. Chastain won by fall against Shad Cano. Beaty won by major decision against Hudson Herring (11-3). Mendoza won by decision against Jack Golowenski (9-4) and Sheikh won by decision against Luke Brooks (13-11).
"It's always a dog fight against OBU," said head coach
Vinny Barber. "Coach Crutchmer and Coach Ash do a great job and I really respect their program. We had a few opportunities tonight where we could have flipped the outcome of this dual, but we were unable to capitalize. It comes with being a young team. This match was a good thing for our guys to experience and learn from."
OBU's James Anderson, ranked No. 8, took a win by decision over
Javin Douglas.
Demetri Teddlie lost in a close match 9-8 against No. 19 ranked Jaylon Otero. Still the Eagles had a chance late in the match to pull out the victory. Heading into the 184-pound fight, the Eagles were in front 16-12. Eventually the Tigers battled back and won key matches to secure the bout.
The Eagles will hit the road again to compete in the University of Central Missouri Brand Bayly Open November 24.
