Clarksville, Ark. – The Eagles had a strong showing at the Carl Albert Viking Open on Saturday in Poteau with several wrestlers advancing deep in the tournament.

Demetri Teddlie fought his way to the finals of the 157-pound weight class and Shelton Chastain had five wins in the 125-pound weight class. 

Teddlie, a first-year Eagle, opened with a win by tech fall over Mason Gordon from Carl Albert State. He then won by tech fall over Kasen Smith from Neosho in the quarterfinals. Teddlie took care of business in the semifinals by winning by decision over Zach Dawson from Northeast Oklahoma. His only loss on the day came in the finals where University of Oklahoma's Owen Eck won by fall. Chastain finished fourth overall. He opened with a fall over Dar`Quavion Jackson from Northern Oklahoma College. Chastain followed with another fall over Jake Stanton from Oklahoma Wesleyan. After dropping his next match, Chastain won three straight to advance to the third place match. 

At 133, Clyde Adams had three wins. He won by decision over Roberto Lopez from Northeast Oklahoma, won by major decision over Zeke Wheeler from Oklahoma Wesleyan and won by decision over Isaiah Perez from Indian Hills Community College. At 141, Cameron Hebert posted two wins by decision defeating Aidan Medina from Tarleton State University and Seth Cano from Ouachita Baptist University. At 141B, Luke Adams had three wins. Adams downed Abdul Hashimi from Ouachita Baptist University by decision. He won by fall over Liam Sherrill from Carl Albert State and won by major decision over Corbin McIntier from Northeast Oklahoma. Also in 141B, Zander Payne posted two wins. He won by fall over Kason Mitchell fom Carl Albert State. Payne then won by fall over Jaylon Simon from Northeast Oklahoma. At 149, Hayden Rofkahr posted a pair of wins. He won by tech fall over Waleed Khairi from Northern Oklahoma College. He also won by decision over Janick Schwab from Tarleton State University. At 157B, Trystan Blenis battled to two wins. He won by tech fall over Maxim Becker from Northern Oklahoma College. He also won by decision over Jesse Hinkle from Indian Hills Community College. At 165, Airamis Mendoza had three wins. Mendoza won by fall over Jaydon Fisher from Indian Hills Community College, won by tech fall over Joel Alvarado from Schreiner University and won by fall over Michael Gilreath. Gilreath would win twice - once by fall and once by medical forfeit. At 174, Gabriel Sheikh had four wins. He won by fall over Colt Mitchell from Tarleton State University. He won by fall over Chandler Fortney from Northeast Oklahoma and won by tech fall over Caelob Davis from Jarvis Christian University. Finally, he won by fall over Cason Deyalsingh. At 197, Iyanuoluwa Akingbolagun recorded three wins. He won by fall over Jorden Benton from Jarvis Christian University. Akingbolagun won by fall over Colin Vasquez from Tarleton State University and won by fall over Joshua Wilson.

"It was a great day for our guys," said head coach Vinny Barber. "This is the best performance we have had at this event since we started coming here a few years back. Our young guys really competed well and got a lot of experience today. We had several guys go deep in the tournament. It's a very exciting time for this group." 

The Eagles will travel to Missouri for the Drury University Open November 16.
