Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The Eagles had an outstanding opening day at the NCAA III Region VI Regional Men's Wrestling Championships in Iowa on Friday.

A program-record five Eagles were placers, with two of those advancing to the semi-finals tomorrow. The team currently sits in eighth place with a program best 50.5. Shelton Chastain (125) and Demetri Teddlie (157) have advanced to the semi-finals after an impressive day of wrestling. Chastain won by fall over both of his opponents – Chandler Gardner of Illinois Wesleyan and Noel Rosales, Jr. of Luther. Teddlie won by decision against Carter Martinson from Central in Friday's match. Javin Dougles (133) had a pair of wins, one by fall and the other on a major decision to place. Zander Payne (149) won by fall and by tech fall to place. Gabe Sheikh (174) won by fall over two of his three opponents to place. More wrestling action will take place for these five wrestlers with national tourney hopes on the line.
