Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The University of the Ozarks men's wrestling team had five placers and Demetri Teddlie advanced to the NCAA III Championships following a successful run at the NCAA III Region VI Regional Championships in Iowa.

A program-record five Eagles were placers and the team finished in eighth place, its highest finish in seven years. Demetri Teddlie (157) advanced to the NCAA III National Championships after finishing second at the Regional. Teddlie becomes the fifth Eagle to qualify for the National Championships. Shelton Chastain (125) placed fifth overall. Zander Payne (149) finished sixth. Javin Douglas (133) and Gabe Sheikh (174) both placed seventh.

"It was an amazing weekend for us," said head coach Vinny Barber. "Getting a guy to NCAAs from this region is always tough. Demetri is a national tournament level guy and he proved that this weekend. We can't wait for Rhode Island. As a collective group we performed great. Shelton, Zander, Javin and Gabe all placing helped us to a program high five placers. We are improving as a program and consistently have gained ground on the best programs in the country and that showed this weekend." 

Teddlie won by decision against Carter Martinson from Central in Friday's match. In the semifinals on Saturday, Teddlie won by decision over Blain Christie from Wartburg. While he lost in the first place match to Eric Kinkaid from Loras by decision, he would still advance to the NCAA III National Championships. Chastain won by fall over both of his opponents – Chandler Gardner of Illinois Wesleyan and Noel Rosales, Jr. of Luther, on Friday. In the semifinals, Brett Birchman from Wartburg won by decision. Dominick Marre from Central defeated Chastain by decision, but in the fifth place match, Chastain won by decision over Tyler Klein from University Of Dubuque to claim fifth place. Douglas had a pair of wins, one by fall and the other on a major decision on Friday. Aiden Evans from Loras would later top Douglas by major decision. Douglas then won by fall over Robbie Fisher from Nebraska Wesleyan to claim seventh place. Payne won by fall and by tech fall on Friday. He then won by major decision over Caden Schrage from Luther before taking a loss by decision. In his final match of the day, Payne lost to Jared Gallub from Nebraska Wesleyan by fall to claim sixth place. Sheikh won by fall over two of his three opponents on Friday. David Burgess from Huntingdon won by fall, but Sheikh won by medical forfeit over Jace Nelson-Brown from Cornell College to claim seventh place. At 165, Airamis Mendoza won by fall over Jackson Castaneda from Illinois Wesleyan. At 184, Nawab Singh won by decision over Jonathan Casaus from Simpson. At 197, Jadaan Anderson won by fall over Eil Villegas from Illinois Wesleyan. At 285, Philip Saenz Jr. won by decision over Troy Galloway from Simpson.
