Demetri Teddlie Ready For NCAA III National Championships

DETAILS:
NCAA III Men's Wrestling National Championships
March 14-15, 2025
Providence, Rhode Island
Amica Mutual Pavilion

PREVIEW: University of the Ozarks wrestler Demetri Teddlie will represent the Eagles at the NCAA III Wrestling National Championships March 14-15 in Providence, Rhode Island. Teddlie, a senior wrestling in the 157-pound weight class, is currently ranked No. 13 by The Open Mat. A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, he qualified for nationals after finishing second at the NCAA III Region VI Regional Championships two weeks ago. He owns a 23-6 record this season.

He will open the tournament Friday wrestling Michael Macias from Augustana College. Macias, a sophomore, is ranked No. 19 and owns a 17-8 record. The pair are slated to wrestle between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Teddlie is the fifth national qualifier in program history.

"It's super important to have a guy at the national tournament," said head coach Vinny Barber. "We talk about getting to nationals a lot and becoming an All-American. We have been consistent on qualifying guys. The next step is to start placing at nationals."

Teddlie has had his sights set on the national tournament all season.

"Qualifying is a step to what I want to do – winning nationals and becoming an All-American," said Teddlie. "I have a feel for what type of wrestlers I will be facing. I don't think I will be as nervous as I was previously competing at the NCAA II Tournament. Because I know what to expect, I can go out there and put on a show. My goal is to win every match and when I get the first takedown, I want to keep that momentum going."

Barber believes Teddlie is ready for the challenge this weekend.

"He's prepared his entire career," said Barber. "He has spent his whole life preparing for this day. He looked phenomenal at Regionals. I've seen flashes of greatness from him this season. He has a great wrestling IQ and is a great athlete and competitor. It's the end of the road for him so I know he will be at his best."
