GAME ONE
Overview:
Memphis, Tenn. – The Eagles produced back-to-back big innings late in the game to take a 7-5 win in game one against Rhodes College Friday. Rhodes held a 2-0 advantage after five complete innings, but the Eagles battled back in the top of the sixth and seventh. In the sixth,
Mack Lucio smacked a two-run homer to even the score. With two outs,
Makinzie Erwin hit a solo home run for the lead. The Eagles shut out Rhodes in the bottom of the sixth and then turned to the seventh for more offense.
Karsyn Tencleve generated an RBI single to give the Eagles a 4-2 lead. The Eagles offense got another huge push when Lucio blasted a three-run homer. Rhodes made things interesting in the bottom of the seventh. Rhodes led off with a triple and promptly drove that runner in with a sacrifice fly.
Morgan Haupt fanned the next batter for the second out. Rhodes followed with a single, a double and another double to bring it to 7-5. But Haupt got the final out with a infield pop out. Lucio finished her big day going 3-for-5 with five RBI. Lucio now has five home runs. It was Erwin's first homer of the year. Haupt threw a complete game and finished with four strikeouts.
GAME TWO
Overview:
The Eagles had another strong performance in game two winning 7-4 to complete a two-game sweep against Rhodes. The Eagles struck first when
Kyndal Garner smashed a two-run homer in the second. The Eagles had another big inning, this time in the fifth recording three hits and three runs. With the bases loaded, Tencleve had a groundout RBI to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead. Lucio then continued her outstanding day with a two-run double. The Eagles followed with two runs in the sixth on an RBI from
Jayci Bradley and a run scoring infield error. With the Eagles in front 7-1, Rhodes rallied for three runs in the seventh to close the gap. Haupt would end the game with a fly out to centerfield. Bradley and Lucio each had two hits. Lucio and Garner had two RBI. Lucio would also get the win after tossing 5.2 innings.

The Eagles will travel to Batesville to face Lyon College March 26.
