Men's Tennis Opens The Spring Season In Texas

Texarkana, Texas - The University of the Ozarks men's tennis team opened its spring slate Tuesday with a 5–2 road loss to East Texas Baptist University and a 6–1 setback to Texas A&M University–Texarkana in nonconference action at Texarkana.

Ozarks battled throughout singles play and earned two victories, but ETBU's sweep of the doubles point proved decisive in the match outcome.

The Eagles claimed the early advantage by winning all three doubles contests. ETBU secured tight 7–5 wins at both the No. 1 and No. 2 positions before pulling away for a 6–2 decision at No. 3 to take a 3–0 lead entering singles competition.

Ozarks responded with strong performances in singles play. Haru Satomura delivered a key result at the top spot, edging Sam Black in straight sets, 7–6, 7–5, in a match featuring extended rallies and clutch tiebreak tennis. Perry Guidry added the Eagles' second point with a resilient effort at No. 5 singles, bouncing back from a second-set loss to capture a 10–6 super tiebreak victory over Max Karseno.

East Texas Baptist, however, secured wins at positions two, three, four, and six to close out the match. 

Ozarks showed early promise in doubles competition, winning two of three matches, but Texas A&M-Texarkana controlled singles play to secure the team victory.

The Eagles earned victories at the top two doubles positions. Kento Iwahara and Perry Guidry teamed for a 6–4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Sergio Munoz and Zachary Hanson added a 6–3 triumph at No. 2. TAMUT captured the No. 3 contest 6–2, leaving the doubles point tightly contested heading into singles play.

Texas A&M-Texarkana took command in singles, winning all six courts. Sebastian Romanos opened singles with a competitive 7–6, 6–4 win over Archie Martyn-Smith at No. 1. The Eagles faced tough opposition throughout the middle lineup, as TAMUT earned straight-set victories at positions two through five.

Ozarks' strongest singles push came at No. 6, where Nathan Briggs battled through three sets against Bramlett Baird before falling in a deciding super tiebreak, 13–6.

The Eagles will travel to Conway for a match against Hendrix College on March 1.
