Dubuque, Iowa - The University of the Ozarks wrestling team had five placers, tying a record for most placers in program history, and finished eighth overall at the NCAA III Region VI Regional Championships in Iowa over the weekend.

"It's always hard having the season end before the national tournament, but we have nothing to hang our head about," said head coach Nathan Rankin. "We had a lot of guys step up during times of need and the team came together at the end of the season for the two biggest tournaments. We were able to replicate a conference title and our best regional performance as a team. The last few tournaments showed how much our younger guys developed throughout the year and the steps we made as a whole from top to bottom. I'm super proud of these guys and it's bitter sweet losing so many great seniors, but I'm grateful for all they have accomplished for this team. I'm excited to build on these performances as we head into the off season and next season." 

The Eagles also had five placers last season and also finished eighth last season. Ka'Ron Lewis (285) and Javin Douglas (133) had the most success for the Eagles finishing fourth overall. Lewis went 2-0 on Friday and then battled No. 1 ranked Mitch Williamson from Wartburg and lost 22-0. He came back to win by fall over Jamal Neeway from Central. In the third place match, Lewis lost to Wyatt Smith from Coe by decision (Dec 4-1). On Friday, Lewis won by fall over Jayden Lee from Blackburn and won in sudden victory over Justin Matson from University Of Dubuque. Shelton Chastain (125) had a sixth place finish, Jadaan Anderson (197) had a seventh place finish and Nawab Singh (184) had an eighth place finish. Douglas won by fall over Jayden Copeland from Schreiner. Connor Fiser from Loras won by decision, but Douglas came back and won by fall over Ty Ferguson from Lyon College. Douglas won again, this time by tech fall over CJ Davis from Central. Douglas later won by decision over Brody Neighbor from Coe to advance to third place match. Douglas faced Fiser again and lost by decision. Chastain won by fall over Patrick Gugala-Reinders from Luther, but lost in the quarterfinal against Carter West from Central by decision. Chastain battled back to win by fall over Quinton Chavez from Nebraska Wesleyan and then won by tech fall over Tyler Japp from Buena Vista. Chastain took a loss against Aidan Gruenenfelder from Loras (by decision). Chastain would end his run after Jase Van Pelt from Cornell College won by decision. Anderson won by fall over Patrick Fields from Eureka. In the quarterfinal, Jean Ngoma from Coe won by tech fall. Anderson rebounded to win by decision over Eli Lupton from Lyon College. But Kevin Shaw from Huntingdon took a win by decision later in the day. But Anderson finished strong winning by decision over Kam Royster from Loras. After a loss by fall against Trevor Kruse from Buena Vista, Singh won two straight matches – a major decision over Lucas Blanton from Illinois Wesleyan and by decision over Caden Elliott from Simpson. Singh lost his next match against Griffin Schultz from Luther  by fall. Cole Martin from Central took a win by decision to close out Nawab's career.
