Women's Tennis Team Drops Texas Matches

Clarksville, Ark. - The University of the Ozarks women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 road decision to Southwestern University Saturday in Georgetown, Texas and a 7-0 decision against Schreiner University on Sunday in Kerrville, Texas.

Southwestern secured the early advantage by sweeping all three doubles matches. The Pirates' No. 1 pair of Isa Cepeda and Daryl Locke defeated Ozarks' Kelsey Smith and Brooke Humphrey 6-0, while Lilly Perkins and Katia Childs earned a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles over Madison Hamilton and Erika Jones. At No. 3 doubles, Addison Powell and Kimberly Duncan posted a 6-0 victory against Jayden Vazquez and Samantha Naramore.

In singles play, Southwestern continued its momentum, winning all six matches in straight sets. Isa Cepeda earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Kelsey Smith at No. 1 singles. Daryl Locke followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Brooke Humphrey at No. 2. Kimberly Duncan defeated Madison Hamilton 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, while Lilly Perkins topped Erika Jones 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. At No. 5 singles, Addison Powell claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win over Jayden Vazquez, and Katia Childs closed the match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Yamileth Lopez at No. 6.

Against Schreiner, Ozarks opened the match with a strong performance at No. 1 doubles as Kelsey Smith and Brooke Humphrey earned a 6-3 victory. However, Schreiner claimed the doubles point by winning the remaining two matches. 

In singles play, Schreiner secured victories across all six courts to clinch the match. Mikinley Jamison defeated Kelsey Smith 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, while Mackenzie Griffin topped Brooke Humphrey 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2. At No. 3 singles, Kinverly Ibarra held off Madison Hamilton 7-5, 6-4. Katherine Bergeron recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win over Erika Jones at No. 4 singles, Maya Jackson defeated Jayden Vazquez 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5, and Sonnea Garcia closed the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Samantha Naramore at No. 6.

The Eagles will host three straight matches beginning with Arkansas Tech University March 18.
