Clarksville, Ark. - The University of the Ozarks men's tennis team secured a strong 5-2 victory over St. Thomas on Friday afternoon, highlighted by a dominant performance in both doubles and singles play.
Ozarks set the tone early by claiming the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The duo of Kento Iwahara and Perry Guidry earned a 6-3 victory, while Sergio Munoz and Zachary Hanson followed with a 6-4 win to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead heading into singles competition.
In singles play, Ozarks delivered four wins to seal the match. Iwahara led the way at No. 1 with a decisive 6-3, 6-1 victory, while Haru Satomura added a straight-sets win at No. 2 (6-3, 6-4). Munoz battled back after dropping the first set to claim a three-set victory (4-6, 6-2, 6-3) at No. 3. Guidry rounded out the scoring for Ozarks with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4.
St. Thomas picked up points at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, but Ozarks' early momentum and depth proved to be the difference.
The Eagles will hit the road next week for matches against Colorado Mesa University and Colorado College March 27.
