Colorado Springs, Colo. - The University of the Ozarks men's tennis team fell 7-0 to Colorado Mesa University in non-conference play Friday.
Ozarks showed early competitiveness in doubles, highlighted by a strong performance at No. 3. Archie Martyn-Smith and Ryan Rosalin earned a hard-fought 7-6 (8-6) victory to provide a bright spot for the Eagles. However, Colorado Mesa claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 (6-4) and No. 2 (6-1).
In singles play, Colorado Mesa (6-12) controlled the match, winning all six contests in straight sets. Haru Satomura battled at No. 1 singles before falling 6-4, 6-2, while Seth Dunn dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 2.
Nestor Carrero (No. 3) and Luke Boyden (No. 5) each won games in their matches but were defeated in straight sets, while Graham Blackman (No. 4) and Nathan Briggs (No. 6) fell 6-0, 6-0.
The Eagles dropped a 6-1 decision to Colorado College in conference play later that day.
The Eagles faced an early deficit after Colorado College swept all three doubles matches. The Eagles' top duo of Kento Iwahara and Perry Guidry fell 6-2, while Sergio Munoz and Zachary Hanson were defeated 6-0 at No. 2. The No. 3 team of Ryan Rosalin and Archie Martyn-Smith battled but came up short, 7-5.
In singles play, the Eagles picked up its lone point at the top spot. Kento Iwahara delivered a strong performance, earning a 6-1, 6-2 win over Dominik Kaminski at No. 1 singles.
The remaining matches were tightly contested in several spots. Haru Satomura (No. 2) and Sergio Munoz (No. 3) each pushed their matches to a deciding super tiebreaker but were unable to secure victories. Satomura fell 1-6, 6-1, 10-7, while Munoz dropped a 4-6, 7-5, 10-6 decision.
Colorado College secured the rest of the singles points in straight sets at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 to seal the match.
The Eagles will take on John Brown University April 4 in Siloam Springs.
