Abilene, Texas - The University of the Ozarks used a fast start and strong pitching to earn a 7-3 softball win over McMurry on Friday afternoon in Abilene, Texas.
Ozarks jumped ahead immediately, scoring three runs in the first inning. RBI singles from
Isabella Hulsey,
Jorden Hodges, and
Lori-Ann Hughes plated
Emma Reynolds,
Kamryn Uher, and
Bailee Cowell to give Ozarks a 3-0 lead.
The Eagles added three more runs in the third inning.
Emma Reynolds drove in a run after reaching on an error,
Kamryn Uher was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home another, and
Bailee Cowell grounded out to score
Brilea Rofkahr, extending the lead to 6-0.
McMurry chipped away with single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to close the gap to 6-3, but Ozarks added an insurance run in the sixth inning when
Sage Adams singled to score Hulsey.
Ozarks finished with 13 hits, led by
Lori-Ann Hughes, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while
Emma Reynolds,
Kamryn Uher, and
Isabella Hulsey each collected two hits.
In the circle,
Bailee Cowell earned the complete-game victory, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out three over seven innings.
Game Two
The Eagles dropped the second game of Friday's doubleheader 4-2.
McMurry struck first in the third inning when Reaghan Staehely doubled down the line to drive in two runs, giving the War Hawks a 2-0 lead.
Ozarks responded in the fourth inning when
Sage Adams launched a solo home run to cut the deficit to 2-1. McMurry answered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring twice to extend the lead to 4-1.
The Eagles added a run in the fifth inning when
Emma Reynolds drove in
Brilea Rofkahr, but Ozarks was unable to get closer as McMurry closed out the win.
Ozarks recorded seven hits, led by
Sage Adams, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.
