Sherman, Texas - Austin College handed the University of the Ozarks women's tennis team a tough 6-1 loss in SCAC women's tennis action Friday in Sherman, Texas.
Austin College took early control by sweeping all three doubles matches. The No. 1 pair of Emma Davidson and Olivia Sanchez led the way with a 6-1 win, while the Kangaroos followed with 6-2 and 6-3 victories at No. 2 and No. 3 to secure the doubles point.
In singles play, Austin College continued to dictate the match, winning five of six positions in straight sets. Olivia Sanchez set the tone at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kelsey Smith. Elizabeth Mojica was dominant at No. 3, allowing just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory, while Emma Davidson (No. 4), Ashlyn Alexander (No. 5), and Lauren Walker (No. 6) each earned convincing straight-set wins.
The bright spot for the Eagles came at No. 2 singles, where Brooke Humphrey battled back after dropping the first set to defeat Lauren Hofeldt 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 for the team's only point.
The Eagles were unable to recover from the early doubles deficit and struggled to gain momentum throughout the remainder of the match.
The Eagles will face University of Dallas Saturday in Texas.
