Eagles Split Conference Matches, Head to Post-Season

Clarksville, Ark. - The University of the Ozarks men's tennis team posted a 1-1 record in a pair of conference matches Friday and will now prepare for the conference post-season tournament.

The Eagles delivered a clean, commanding performance sweeping Texas Lutheran University 4-0 in the early match.

The Eagles set the tone early by clinching the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The duo of Kento Iwahara and Perry Guidry secured a solid 6-4 victory, while Sergio Munoz and Zachary Hanson followed with a 6-3 win to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead heading into singles play. The third doubles match was left unfinished with Ozarks narrowly trailing 4-5.

In singles, the Eagles quickly put the match out of reach with three straight-set victories. Haru Satomura was dominant at No. 2, rolling to a 6-3, 6-1 win. Sergio Munoz added another point with a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 3, and Perry Guidry sealed the team victory at No. 4 with a 6-4, 6-2 win.

Several matches went unfinished after the team result was decided. At No. 1 singles, Kento Iwahara was battling back after dropping the first set and held a 2-1 lead in the third. Matches at No. 5 and No. 6 were still in the early stages when play was halted.

With the sweep, the Eagles showcased strong depth and control throughout the lineup, especially in doubles and the middle of the singles order, to secure the shutout victory.

Concordia University Texas edged out a tight 4-3 victory over the Eagles in the final match of the day.

The Eagles grabbed the early momentum by taking the doubles point. The No. 1 pair of Perry Guidry and Kento Iwahara led the way with a convincing 6-2 win.

In singles play, the match turned into a back-and-forth battle. Concordia struck first with straight-set wins at No. 1 and No. 4. Daniel Beckles then delivered one of the most pivotal moments of the match at No. 2, outlasting Haru Satomura in a three-set thriller, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5, to push Concordia to the win.

The Eagles had strong performances down the lineup. Sergio Munoz battled to a hard-fought three-set win at No. 3, while Zachary Hanson and Ryan Rosalin each cruised in straight sets at No. 5 and No. 6 to keep the Eagles within striking distance.
