Kerrville, Texas - The University of the Ozarks men's tennis team delivered a clutch postseason performance, defeating St. Thomas 4-1 behind a dominant doubles sweep and strong play in the middle of the singles lineup in the quarter finals of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference on Friday in Kerrville, Texas.
The Eagles will now face Colorado College in the semi finals Saturday at noon.
Ozarks came out sharp in doubles, taking control early by winning both completed matches. Kento Iwahara and Joseph Guidry rolled to a 6-2 win at No. 1, while Sergio Munoz and Zachary Hanson were even more dominant with a 6-1 victory at No. 2, securing the doubles point.
With momentum on their side, Ozarks carried that energy into singles play. Zachary Hanson quickly extended the lead with a decisive 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5.
After St. Thomas picked up a point at No. 6, Ozarks responded in a big way. Sergio Munoz battled through a three-set match (6-3, 1-6, 6-3) to give the Eagles a 3-1 advantage.
Haru Satomura then sealed the match with a composed straight-sets victory (7-5, 6-3) at No. 2.
