Siloam Springs, Ark. - The University of the Ozarks men's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over John Brown University on Friday afternoon in Siloam Springs, securing the win with a strong showing in singles play.
Ozarks claimed the doubles point to open the match, highlighted by a key 7-6 win at No. 1 doubles from the duo of
Sergio Munoz and
Perry Guidry. John Brown answered with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, but Ozarks' top-court win proved decisive in taking the early 1-0 lead.
In singles action, Ozarks won four of six matches to clinch the team victory.
Leading the way,
Kento Iwahara delivered a straight-set 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles, while
Haru Satomura dominated at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
Ozarks also picked up crucial wins in tightly contested matches.
Zachary Hanson rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 win at No. 4, and
Perry Guidry outlasted his opponent in a pair of tiebreakers, winning 7-6, 7-6 at No. 5.
John Brown secured points at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, but Ozarks' depth and resilience in close matches proved the difference in the one-point victory.
The Eagles will travel to Texas for matches against Austin College and University of Dallas April 10-11.
