Clarksville, Ark. - The University of the Ozarks women's tennis program received academic recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), it was announced by college tennis' governing body recently.  
     
The women's team earned the ITA Team Academic Award. In order to receive the award, the team must have a combined team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale). The women's program also had eight athletes on the ITA Scholar-Athlete Team. The team included Journey Blackwell, a freshman psychology major from Choctaw, Okla.; Gabriella Davis, a senior elementary education major from Russellville; Brooke Humphrey, a freshman psychology major from Castle Rock, Colo.; Erika Jones, a senior history major from Van Buren, Ark.; Yamileth Lopez, a senior management and psychology major from El Salvador; Samantha Naramore, a sophomore psychology major from Lufkin, Texas; Baylee Parnell, a freshman art major from Booneville, Ark.; and Kelsey Smith, a senior health science major from Norman, Okla.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a letterwinner and maintain a GPA of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year.
