THE BASICS
Brownwood, Texas – The Eagles overcame a halftime deficit and outscored Howard Payne University 50-39 to gain a conference-opening 91-83 win on Saturday in Brownwood, Texas. The first half was close throughout with Howard Payne taking a narrow 44-41 lead at halftime. In the second half, the Eagles built a 57-50 lead at the 12:26 mark. Timquorian Johnson scored on a layup and Josh Ukpe later hit a three-pointer to give the Eagles a 63-52 advantage. The Eagles then maintained the lead for the rest of the way. The two teams combined to shoot 71 free throws. Ukpe led the Eagles with 23 points. Jordan Jenkins and Johnson both posted double-doubles. Jenkins had 13 points and 15 rebounds, while Johnson had 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Eagles went 12-for-37 (32%) from the three-point line.
