Brownwood, Texas – The Eagles overcame a halftime deficit and outscored Howard Payne University 50-39 to gain a conference-opening 91-83 win on Saturday in Brownwood, Texas. The first half was close throughout with Howard Payne taking a narrow 44-41 lead at halftime. In the second half, the Eagles built a 57-50 lead at the 12:26 mark.
Timquorian Johnson scored on a layup and
Josh Ukpe later hit a three-pointer to give the Eagles a 63-52 advantage. The Eagles then maintained the lead for the rest of the way. The two teams combined to shoot 71 free throws. Ukpe led the Eagles with 23 points.
