THE BASICS
Jackson, Miss. – The Eagles overcame a first quarter deficit to pick up a 65-58 win over Belhaven University on Saturday in Mississippi. After hitting 20 percent from the field in the first quarter, the Eagles came back in the second quarter and hit 46 percent to head into halftime with a 28-24 lead. Naomi Smith opened the third quarter with a three-pointer, but Belhaven would battle back to eventually take a 38-37 lead with 2:44 remaining in the quarter. Belhaven would open the fourth quarter with a slight lead, but Lili Garcia quickly answered with a three-pointer to give the lead back to the Eagles. From there, the Eagles would hold the lead the rest of the game. Smith posted a double-double with 22 points and 17 rebounds in the win. Abby Beene would add 16 points and Garcia finished with 11.

TURNING POINT
Belhaven hit the first shot of the fourth quarter to take an advantage, but Lili Garcia drilled a three-pointer to give the Eagles a lead  they wouldn't relinquish.
