Game One Overview
Clarksville, Ark. – The Eagles cruised to a 3-0 lead late in the game only to have Sul Ross State University rally for a 5-4 win on Thursday. The Eagles plated a run in the third inning on
Nicholas Bennett's RBI double down the right field line. The Eagles then hit solo home runs in the fourth (
Isaac Price) and in the sixth (
Britton Smith) to own a 3-0 advantage. Starting pitcher
Jhasir Camano allowed just two hits through seven complete innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the eighth. That was when Sul Ross scored all five runs behind four hits. With the Lobos leading 5-3, the Eagles got one run back in the bottom of the eighth when
Lane Carosh scored from third on a wild pitch. Relief pitcher
Jake Estrada struck out the side in the top of the ninth to put the Eagles in striking distance. In the bottom half of the inning, Bennett would reach on an error and
Jake Dempsey then followed with a single to right field for two runners on with one out. Sul Ross got a strikeout for the second out, but
Phillip Drilling patiently drew a walk to load the bases. However, the Lobos recorded the final out with a high fly out to left field. Bennett and Smith each had two hits. Camano was charged with the loss and had five strike outs.
