Jake Dempsey hit a grand slam to break open a close game and starting pitcher
Isaiah Lemke cruised through 7.1 innings as the Eagles won the series against Howard Payne University behind a 8-3 victory Saturday. With the Eagles leading 3-1 after the third, Dempsey blasted a grand slam in the fourth to put the Eagles in front 7-1. Lemke allowed just four hits and struck out six through seven innings. He was replaced in the eighth by
Will Utchman, who got a pop out and a strikeout to end the eighth. Dempsey wasn't the only Eagle who went deep at the new ballpark.
Isaac Price hit a solo shot in the first and
Daulton Johnson hit a solo homer in the seventh. The Eagles had 12 hits, with
Conner Reed going 3-for-4 and Dempsey finishing 2-for-5 with four RBI. Lemke moves to 2-1 on the season.
