THE BASICS
Clarksville, Ark. – The Eagles moved to 3-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 71-54 win against Austin College on Sunday behind a perfect 21-of-21 effort from the free throw line, which tied a conference record. The Eagles and Rose-Hulman (2005-06) now own the free throw record (100%) together. The Eagles have also had its best start to a season since the 1996-97 team, which went 11-1 in its first 12 games. Today, the Eagles surpassed the 2000-01 team that went 8-3 through the first 11 games. The Eagles controlled the game from the outset and led 21-12 after the first quarter. The Eagles led at halftime 34-28, but Austin College made a run in the third quarter to trim the deficit to 44-40. In the fourth, the Eagles scored 27 points to outpace the Kangaroos. The Eagles opened the fourth quarter with seven straight points. However, Austin College kept it close cutting the deficit to five points on two occasions. But the Eagles owned the final six minutes and outscored the Kangaroos 18-6 the rest of the way.
