Game One Overview
Clarksville, Ark. – The University of St. Thomas held off a ninth inning rally by the Eagles to win the series after posting a 6-4 win on Saturday. Joseph Coon drove in the speedy Langdon Townsend in the second inning to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Starting pitcher Jeter Fulbright didn't allow a hit through three innings as he mowed down three Celt batters. The Celts didn't record a hit against Fulbright until the fourth inning. The following inning, St. Thomas evened the score, 1-1, and then added two more runs on a two-out hit. The Celts took advantage of a costly Eagle error in the seventh and scored three runs to lead 6-1. The Eagles needed a rally in the bottom of the ninth and Collin May opened with a walk. Phillip Drilling followed with a single. Joseph Coon drew a walk to load the bases, still with no outs. With the Eagles making some noise, Michael White had a bases loaded walk to bring in a run. Rene Garcia had a line drive single to bring in one more run pulling the Eagles within 6-3. St. Thomas was able to record an infield pop out for the first out. Ben Matos had a sacrifice fly to make the score 6-4. St. Thomas got the final out with a fly out to shallow right field. The Eagles totaled seven hits while St. Thomas had eight. Conner Reed had two hits. Fulbright and relief pitcher Darren Crane were not charged with any earned runs.
