Clarksville, Ark. – The University of the Ozarks women's volleyball team made history Tuesday night winning a hard fought 3-2 match against Williams Baptist University to open the program's inaugural season.
The Eagles came out strong winning the first set 25-19. The Eagles played even better in the second set winning 25-12. Just as it appeared the Eagles would cruise to a three-set sweep, Williams Baptist rallied back to win the third set. The Eagles led in the fourth set only to have Williams Baptist score several points in a row to eventually push the match to five sets. The fifth set showdown went back-and-forth with the Eagles finally securing a 15-12 win while making history in a new era of athletics at Ozarks.
"The crowd was amazing and our girls finished strong proving to themselves that they could do it," said head coach
Natalia Burdulis. "It is very sweet to start the season 1-0".
The Eagles will travel to Conway to face Central Baptist College and Sterling College September 5. The Eagles will face Freed-Hardeman University on September 6 in Conway.
