Eagles Fall In SCAC Championship Tournament

CONWAY, Ark. — A tightly contested battle featuring 16 lead changes and nine ties ultimately swung in overtime as Texas Lutheran outlasted the Eagles 84-78 Friday night at Grove Gymnasium in the quarterfinals of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Ozarks (13-13, 8-8 SCAC) matched Texas Lutheran (19-7, 13-3 SCAC) throughout regulation, using balanced scoring and strong rebounding to force an extra period after the teams entered the fourth quarter knotted at 45-45 and remained deadlocked at the end of regulation.

In overtime, Texas Lutheran caught fire offensively, shooting 71 percent from the floor and 75 percent from three while converting nine free throws to create separation and secure the six-point win.

Ozarks received a standout performance from Lila Hartness, who led the Eagles with 21 points while hitting three three-pointers and a perfect 6-for-6 at the free-throw line. Kennedi Wight added 19 points and dominated the glass with 12 rebounds for a double-double, while Abby Beene chipped in 12 points.

The Eagles also got early contributions across the lineup, including seven points from Elli Garcia and six from Nadia Smith, helping Ozarks build momentum during multiple stretches of the game.

Texas Lutheran countered with three 19-plus point scorers. Lauren Sansano paced the Bulldogs with 23 points and 12 assists, while Davi'Yanna Jones scored 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting and Sarahi Jones contributed 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Despite shooting just 36.8 percent overall, Ozarks stayed within striking distance thanks to 25 points off turnovers, 16 second-chance points, and an 83 percent performance at the free-throw line. The Eagles also held a 32-26 edge in points in the paint.

However, Texas Lutheran's rebounding advantage (49-42) and explosive overtime shooting proved decisive in the final outcome.
