Houston, Texas - The University of the Ozarks softball team dropped a tightly contested 1-0 decision to St. Thomas on Sunday afternoon as both teams were locked in a dominant pitchers' duel through six scoreless innings.
The Eagles managed just three hits on the day, while St. Thomas broke through with the game's only run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
St. Thomas capitalized on a scoring opportunity in the sixth, as Kianah Johnson delivered an RBI groundout to bring home Viviana Vargas for the decisive run.
Bailee Cowell was strong in the circle for the Eagles, tossing a complete game while allowing just one run on five hits. She worked around three walks and struck out one in the tough-luck loss.
The Eagles' offense was limited throughout, with Isabella Hulsey, Lori-Ann Hughes, and Sage Adams each recording a hit. The Eagles were unable to generate a multi-hit inning and stranded four runners.
Defensively, the Eagles turned a double play, but two errors proved costly in a game where runs were at a premium.
St. Thomas finished with five hits and drew three walks, putting pressure on Ozarks' pitching staff before finally breaking through late.
