Concordia Softball Wins Game Three

Clarksville, Ark. - Concordia University Texas used a late push to break a tie and hand the Eagles a 4-2 loss Saturday at the Wilson Athletic Complex in Clarksville.

The Eagles grabbed momentum in the fourth inning, plating two runs to take a 2-1 lead. Lori-Ann Hughes drove in the first run on a groundout, and Jorden Hodges followed with an RBI single to center to give the Eagles their only lead of the game.

Concordia answered immediately in the fifth with an RBI double to even the score at 2-2, setting the stage for a decisive seventh inning.

In the top of the seventh, Concordia capitalized on execution and situational hitting. Molly Olivarez reached on a fielder's choice that brought home the go-ahead run, and Karlee Mathis added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly on a very close call at home plate to make it 4-2.

Bailee Cowell took the loss for Ozarks despite a solid complete-game effort, allowing four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts. Offensively, Cowell also led the way with two hits, including a double.

After giving up two runs early, Concordia's bullpen shut the door. Mayson Post earned the win with two scoreless innings, allowing no hits while striking out two to close it out.

The Eagles finished with five hits but couldn't generate offense after the fourth inning, as Concordia retired the final six batters of the game to seal the victory.

The Eagles will travel Irving to face University of Dallas April 17-18.
