Clarksville, Ark. - The University of the Ozarks women's volleyball team opened SCAC play Friday night, falling to Hendrix College 3-1 (20-25, 25-15, 25-12, 26-24) at Mabee Gymnasium.
The Eagles came out strong in the opening set, hitting .135 as a team while limiting Hendrix to a .243 hitting percentage. Ozarks used a balanced attack to take the first set 25-20 and grab an early 1-0 lead.
Hendrix responded in the second set, recording 13 kills while hitting .400. The Warriors held Ozarks to nine kills and a .036 hitting percentage to even the match with a 25-15 victory.
The Warriors continued their momentum in the third set, hitting .375 with 13 kills. Hendrix limited the Eagles to a .054 hitting percentage and took the set 25-12 to move ahead 2-1.
Ozarks battled in the fourth set and pushed Hendrix to extra points. The Eagles recorded 16 kills and hit .333, their best offensive performance of the night. Hendrix ultimately closed out the match 26-24.
Claire Zeiler and Caylie Apperson led the Eagles offensively with 12 kills apiece, while Brooke Humphrey added eight kills. Zeiler also recorded a team-high 15 digs.
Jillian Childs led Ozarks with 16 assists, while Anna Campbell and Gabby Dotson each contributed nine assists. Dotson paced the Eagles with four service aces, and Humphrey added two.
The Eagles will play Austin College and Howard Payne in Texas September 27.
