THE BASICS
Alpine, Texas – The Eagles fought back in the fourth quarter to pull within four points, but it wouldn't be enough as Sul Ross State University took a 82-73 win Thursday night. Sul Ross led 39-36 at halftime behind a second quarter that saw the Lobos hit 71 percent from the floor. The Lobos built a double-digit lead after three quarters of play, but the Eagles made a run to cut the deficit to 67-63 early in the fourth. Destini Powell and Amanda Turpin made back-to-back three-pointers during that stretch. Turpin would later make a layup with 4:02 remaining in the game to make it 71-67. But that would be as close as the Eagles could get. Turpin poured in a season-high 27 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field. Turpin drilled 6-of-10 from the three-point line. Turpin also contributed three steals and three blocks. Powell had a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds.
