THE BASICS
Clarksville, Ark. – The Eagles hung on for a 66-65 win over East Texas Baptist University Saturday for their second straight conference win. The Eagles held a 35-30 halftime lead and then extended its advantage to 52-41 at the end of three quarters before East Texas Baptist made a run. The Eagles opened the third quarter on a 9-0 run.
Abby Beene's three-pointer at the 1:31 mark of the third gave the Eagles a 51-36 lead. In the fourth, the Tigers closed the gap to two points with 3:48 remaining and then tied it on their next possession. The Eagles got a big three-pointer from
Destini Powell to push the lead to 65-61 with 1:48 left. Beene made it 66-62 with 13 ticks left, but the Tigers hit a three-pointer just seconds later. The Eagles were able to run down the clock and went to the free throw line with three seconds left, but couldn't convert. The Tigers grabbed the rebound for the last possession, but couldn't hit a long desperation shot. Beene led the Eagles with 22 points, finishing 6-of-9 from the three-point line.
