THE BASICS
Clarksville, Ark. – UT Dallas held off the Eagles in the second half to pick up a 60-46 win Wednesday night. The Comets held a 31-22 halftime lead as the Eagles struggled from the field hitting only 28 percent in each quarter. The Comet defense then held the Eagles to a 17 percent shooting clip in the third quarter, but things changed in the fourth.
Naomi Smith hit a jumper to cut it to 47-39 early in the fourth. A pair of free throws from
Heaven Hayden made it 47-41 at the 5:17 mark.
Amanda Turpin made a layup to put the Eagles within 47-43 on their next possession. But that would be as close as the Eagles could get. Neither team shot well from the three-point line as the Eagles went 1-of-17 and the Comets made only three. The Comets were able to keep the Eagles from a comeback snagging 52 rebounds in the contest.
Naomi Smith posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
