THE BASICS
Memphis, Tenn. - The Eagles shot 46 from the field and three starters scored 18 or more points to earn a 83-76 win against Rhodes College on Sunday afternoon at the Rhodes College Classic. The Eagles shot an outstanding 52 percent from the floor in the first half to hold a 40-33 halftime lead. Rhodes opened the second half with a three-pointer to pull within four points, but the Eagles went on a 10-0 spurt to hold a 14-point lead. Rhodes would trim the deficit to single digits on multiple occasions in the remaining ten minutes of the second half, but the Eagles never let the lead slip away. The Eagles won the rebounding battle with a 39-28 edge. The Eagles also created ten steals. James Mathews led the Eagles with 20 points behind a 10-for-10 performance from the free throw line. Mathews also had five steals. Cedrick Dodd scored 19 points and Justice Marmara had 18.

TURNING POINT
After Rhodes opened the second half with a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 40-36, the Eagles went on a 10-0 run to take control of the game.
