THE BASICS
Clarksville, Ark. – The Eagles picked up another conference win edging Southwestern University 75-72 in overtime on Sunday. Senior forward Naomi Smith was simply too much for Southwestern as she scored 24 points, pulled down 15 rebounds and dished out five assists. The Eagles were tied at halftime, 30-30, against the Pirates, but outscored the visitors 23-17 in the third quarter. However, Southwestern rallied from behind to score 20 points in the fourth to send the game into overtime. The Eagles held an eight-point lead early in the fourth quarter, but Southwestern would eventually own a one-point advantage, their only lead of the fourth quarter at the 5:32 mark. In overtime, Southwestern would score first and then hold the lead for most of the overtime. With 22 seconds remaining, Naomi Smith hit the go-ahead shot to give the Eagles a 73-72 lead. After a turnover by Southwestern, the Eagles made a pair of free throws with eight seconds left.
