Game Three Overview
Junior outfielder Taber Childs had a historic night as he hit three home runs to lead the Eagles to a 12-7 win over Hendrix College Tuesday in Conway. Childs tied the school record with three homers, which was originally set in 2008 by Bruce Cameron. Childs also tied the SCAC single game mark with Tuesday's feat. The right-handed hitter homered in the fifth, a solo shot, for his first long ball of the game. He then homered in the seventh, another solo shot. The Eagles had a big eighth inning to open up a close game recording four hits to score four times in the top of the eighth. Britton Smith led off with a single and Conner Reed followed with a bunt. A sacrifice bunt advanced both runners and Hendrix threw a wild pitch to allow the Eagles a run. Langdon Townsend then doubled in a run and the Eagles led 9-7. The Eagles kept the momentum going as Childs blasted his third home run of the game. He drove in two runs with that long ball. With a commanding lead heading into the ninth, Ben Matos singled in a run to make it 12-7. Reed highlighted the fourth with a two-run single and the Eagles led 4-2 in the top half of the inning. Townsend powered a solo home run in the fifth. Childs went 3-for-5 with four RBI and three runs. Reed went 5-for-6 at the plate and Townsend finished 3-for-6 with three RBI. Darren Crane pitched in relief to receive the win.
