Clarksville, Ark. – The Eagles opened Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a thrilling come-from-behind 3-2 win against University of Dallas Saturday night.
The Eagles rallied from a slow start dropping the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-23, to the Crusaders. But the Eagles displayed grit and composure with a strong third set. The Eagles pushed ahead 8-4 early on, but then found themselves in a 10-9 deficit. After that, the Eagles took control scoring eight of the nine next points. Later in the set,
Caylie Appearson recorded a kill to put the Eagles up 22-15. The Eagles would finish the set with three straight points.
The Eagles used that momentum to dominate the fourth set early on, owning a 6-1 lead. The Eagles did have to fight off a rally from Dallas cutting it to 17-16. But the Eagles responded in a big way scoring three straight points. After a Dallas point, the Eagles again scored three straight to make it 23-17.
Arianna Gomez finished off the Crusaders with a kill.
In the final set, the Eagles again started strong opening with a 6-2 lead. Dallas cut it to 10-7, but it was a little too late as the Eagles scored four straight. After a Dallas point, the Eagles secured the match 15-8.
Brooke Humphreys had 16 kills and 17 digs to lead the Eagles.
Lauralai Bradley and
Arianna Gomez had 11 digs apiece.
Alyssa Carlisle had 18 assists.
The Eagles will host Austin College September 21.
