THE BASICS
Clarksville, Ark. – The Eagles once again gave an outstanding defensive effort to win their seventh straight game in conference play earning a 63-52 victory over Austin College on Saturday. The post-season bound Eagles now await their first round opponent in the SCAC Championship Tournament held February 27-March 1 in Conway. The Eagles will play Friday night at 7 p.m. as the No. 3 seed out of the SCAC's Blue Division. On Saturday, the Eagles turned up the heat defensively to put Austin in an uncomfortable position throughout the night. The Eagles limited Austin to seven points in the first quarter and held the visitors to 19 points in the first half. Leading 30-19 heading into the second half, the Eagles shot 25 percent in the third quarter, but rebounded to hit 58 percent from the field in the fourth quarter. Austin got within five points at the midway point of the fourth quarter, but the Eagles went on a 5-0 run to establish momentum.
Kennedi Wight led the Eagles with 22 points.
Abby Beene followed with 19 points.
TURNING POINT
The Eagles' defense was once again all over the court created pressure on the Austin offense holding the Kangaroos to seven points in the first quarter to set the tone.
TIP-INS
The Eagles have held their opponents to around the 50-point mark in the first half during their seven game win streak. The Eagles have won eight of their last nine.
