Clarksville, Ark. - Schreiner University used two explosive innings to turn a close game into a blowout, defeating the Eagles 16-2 Friday afternoon at Lonnie Qualls Field.
The Eagles grabbed early momentum in the first inning. After Schreiner plated a run on a fielder's choice, the Eagles answered with back-to-back RBI singles from Langdon Townsend and Tyler Michlitsch to take a 2-1 lead. That advantage, however, would be short-lived.
Schreiner evened the score in the third on an RBI double, then broke the game open in the sixth. With the score tied 2-2, Schreiner capitalized on defensive miscues and timely hitting to score six runs in the inning.
The Mountaineers put the game completely out of reach in the eighth inning, erupting for eight more runs.
The Eagles managed five hits in the game and were held scoreless after the first inning. Townsend and Michlitsch each recorded two hits and an RBI to lead the Eagles offensively. Defensive struggles proved costly, as four errors contributed to several unearned runs in the decisive middle innings.
The Eagles will travel to Austin, Texas, to face Concordia University Texas April 10-11.
