Game One Overview
Clarksville, Ark. – The Eagles captured game one of the series with a 10-4 win over University of Dallas Saturday night in Texas behind the pitching of
Jake Dempsey and
Landon Massey. The Eagles owned a 2-0 lead after scoring twice in the first frame. The decisive inning came in the fourth when the Eagles plated six runs on four hits.
Phillip Drilling started the hit parade with an RBI single.
Conner Reed later had a two-run single and the Eagles led 6-1.
Collin May tripled in a run and Ben Matos capped the inning with another RBI single. Leading 8-4, the Eagles added an insurance run in the eighth and the ninth inning. The Eagles totaled 11 hits in the game with Reed finishing 3-for-5 with two RBI. Dempsey went 4.2 innings as the starter with three strikeouts. Massey then pitched 4.1 hitless innings to secure the win. Massey fanned five during his outing. The Crusaders did load the bases with two outs in the eighth, but Massy was able to get a groundout to keep the home team off the board.
