Game One Overview
Irving, Texas – The Eagles rallied for a 10-9 extra inning win in game one of Sunday's double-header against University of Dallas in Texas. The Eagles trailed 7-5 heading into the eighth inning before making a comeback. In the top of the eighth,
Conner Reed had an RBI single and
Collin May recorded an RBI groundout to even the score. But Dallas responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead back. The Eagles then rallied for two runs on two hits in the top of the ninth to tie the game, 9-9. Dallas would come up empty in the bottom of the ninth as the Eagles got two fly outs and a groundout. In the top of the tenth, Ben Matos was hit by a pitch and
Taber Childs advanced him a base on a sacrifice bunt.
Michael White was also hit by a pitch and
Rene Garcia followed with a walk to load the bases.
Langdon Townsend then recorded a sacrifice fly to what would be the winning run. The Eagles got a quick out before allowing a hit in the next at-bat. A walk followed for Dallas, but Garcia was inserted to pitch and recorded back-to-back fly outs to end the game. Garcia received the save and
Darren Crane took the win.
Joseph Coon had a three-hit game and May drove in three runs for the Eagles offense.
Game Two Overview
The Eagles had another battle on their hands for most of the game but came out on top 11-6 in game two to complete a three-game sweep. Dallas generated three runs in the first inning to hold an early lead. The Crusaders then added three runs in the fourth while the Eagles offense came up empty until the fifth inning. The Eagles cut the deficit to 6-3 after five complete innings. In the top of the sixth, the Eagles scored three times on one hit to even the game, 6-6. In the seventh, the Eagles took the lead for good on a
Taber Childs RBI double. Coon stole home in the eighth to put the Eagles in front 8-6.
Britton Smith had a two-out three-run double in the top of the ninth to all but put the game out of reach.
Gustavo Melgar was lights out in his relief appearance, throwing a one-hitter over four innings. Melgar struck out two in his scoreless outing. Townsend went 3-for-5 for the Eagles and Smith drove in five runs.
Up Next:
The Eagles will host Hendrix College April 9 and then host University of St. Thomas April 11-12 on a Senior Day weekend. Senior Day will be held on Saturday prior to the game.
